Day 4; First Steps

She took ten steps then fell down
said the babysitter
I hung up the phone and smiled
It's what I work for
besides
I will see walking
walking into the schoolyard
walking out the door
walking away when I'm mid-sentence
walking into another's arms
walking with the graduation procession
walking down the aisle
all those independent steps opened today
an invisible path to her life
and I was there
I was the ground she walked on
